Enhanced Child Safety Measures

Protecting children online isn't just a regulatory requirement, it's a moral imperative and our highest priority at Tanqory. As the regulatory landscape evolves with major COPPA updates taking effect in 2025 and strengthened GDPR-K enforcement across Europe, we've implemented comprehensive child safety measures that don't just meet compliance standards, they exceed them by significant margins.

The 2025 Child Safety Landscape

The regulatory environment for child online safety underwent dramatic changes in 2025. COPPA received its most significant update since inception, with new rules officially taking effect on June 23, 2025, and full compliance requirements extending through April 2026. Simultaneously, the European Data Protection Board published formal guidance on Age Assurance, signaling an EU-wide push for stronger, more consistent protection of children online.

These regulatory changes reflect growing awareness of the unique vulnerabilities children face in digital environments and the responsibility platforms have to protect them.

What Changed in 2025

Expanded Definition of Personal Information The scope of what constitutes "personal information" for children has broadened significantly:

• Biometric data (fingerprints, facial recognition patterns)
• Voice recordings and voice prints
• Device identifiers and persistent identifiers
• Geolocation data of any precision
• Behavioral profiling and tracking data
• Any information that enables physical or online contact with a child

Stricter Consent Requirements Platforms must now obtain separate, explicit parental consent for:

• Sharing data with third-party advertisers
• Using children's data for AI training or model development
• Behavioral profiling for any purpose
• Data retention beyond immediate service needs

Enhanced Penalties Violations now carry fines up to $51,744 per child, per violation under COPPA, with GDPR-K violations subject to the standard 4% of global annual revenue penalty structure.

Our Comprehensive Approach

Tanqory's child safety framework is built on multiple layers of protection, combining technical controls, human review, and continuous improvement based on the latest research and best practices.

Advanced Age Verification

Traditional age verification relies on self-reported birthdays, which children can easily circumvent. Our multi-modal approach combines several sophisticated techniques:

Behavioral Analysis Our AI systems analyze interaction patterns that correlate with age groups:

• Typing speed and patterns
• Navigation behaviors
• Content consumption patterns
• Time-of-day usage patterns
• Session duration and frequency

This analysis happens entirely on-device, ensuring privacy while providing accurate age estimation with 95%+ accuracy.

Document Verification for High-Risk Actions For activities that require higher certainty (account creation, payment methods, changing privacy settings), we employ:

• Knowledge-based authentication (parent-only questions)
• Credit card verification (small authorization charge)
• Face-match ID verification (new COPPA-approved method)
• Government ID verification with privacy-preserving technology

Continuous Re-verification Age verification isn't a one-time checkpoint. Our systems continuously monitor for signs that an account may have been created with false information, triggering re-verification when patterns suggest misrepresented age.

Parental Control Dashboard

We've developed the most comprehensive parental control system in our industry, giving parents granular visibility and control over their children's platform usage.

Real-Time Activity Monitoring

Parents can view:

• What content their child accessed (with timestamps)
• Who they've communicated with
• Time spent on different activities
• Search queries and browsing history
• Privacy settings and any changes made

All monitoring respects children's developing autonomy while ensuring safety: parents receive summaries rather than constant surveillance notifications.

Flexible Permission Controls

Parents can configure:

• Communication restrictions (who can contact their child)
• Content filters (age-appropriate content only)
• Time limits (daily/weekly usage caps)
• Feature restrictions (disable specific platform features)
• Purchase controls (require approval for transactions)
• Location sharing settings

Age-Progressive Permissions

Recognizing that children's capabilities and needs change as they mature, our system supports age-progressive permission loosening:

• Ages 5-7: Highly restricted, curated content only
• Ages 8-10: Expanded content with strong filtering
• Ages 11-12: Increased autonomy with monitoring
• Ages 13+: Gradual transition to full account control

Parents can customize these progressions or maintain stricter controls based on their family's values.

Safe Search and Content Filtering

Our content filtering system represents the state of the art in child-safe content moderation.

Multi-Layer Filtering

Content passes through multiple filters before reaching child users:

1. Automated AI Screening: Machine learning models trained on millions of examples identify inappropriate content with 99.7% accuracy
2. Human Review: Flagged content undergoes review by trained moderators
3. Community Reporting: Users can flag inappropriate content for immediate review
4. Proactive Scanning: Continuous scanning of all platform content, not just new additions

Context-Aware Filtering

Our filters understand context and nuance:

• Educational content about serious topics (health, history) receives appropriate treatment
• Age-specific filtering (content appropriate for 12-year-olds might not be for 7-year-olds)
• Cultural sensitivity (recognizing regional differences in appropriateness)

Categories Filtered

We filter or restrict:

• Violence and graphic content
• Sexual content or innuendo
• Substance abuse references
• Dangerous activities or challenges
• Bullying or harassment
• Personal information sharing
• Contact information disclosure

Privacy-First Architecture

Our entire platform is architected with privacy-by-design principles that go beyond legal requirements:

Data Minimization

We collect only what's absolutely necessary:

• No tracking across other websites or apps
• No persistent identifiers beyond session management
• No behavioral profiling for advertising
• No sale of children's data to third parties
• No use of children's data for AI training without explicit parental consent

Automatic Data Deletion

Children's data is automatically deleted on aggressive schedules:

• Search history: Deleted after 24 hours
• Browsing activity: Deleted after 7 days
• Communication logs: Deleted after 30 days
• Account data: Deleted within 30 days of account closure

Encryption Everywhere

All children's data is encrypted:

• In transit: TLS 1.3 for all communications
• At rest: AES-256 encryption for all stored data
• End-to-end: For private communications between verified users

Geographic Data Residency

For GDPR-K compliance, European children's data remains within EU data centers and is never transferred to jurisdictions with weaker privacy protections.
