How it is worked out

What decides what a loan costs

A fixed-rate loan is repaid in equal monthly payments. Each payment pays the interest on what you still owe, and the rest brings the balance down. The examples below are drawn by the same code as the calculator.

  • MMonthly payment
  • PAmount borrowed
  • rMonthly rate
  • nPayments

One formula sets the payment

M is the monthly payment, P the amount borrowed, r the annual rate divided by 12, and n the number of payments. The calculator runs it, then rounds each payment to your currency's smallest unit so the schedule adds up exactly.

$40,000 at 9% over 4 years: first payment 30% interest, last payment 1%

Each payment splits in two

Interest is charged on the balance left, so early payments are mostly interest. As the balance falls, more of the same payment goes to principal.

  • 3 years$1,613 a month · $8,081 interest
  • 7 years$830 a month · $19,725 interest

A longer term costs more in total

Stretching the term lowers the monthly payment, but you pay interest for longer. Compare both numbers before you choose.

  • Regular$19,725 interest
  • $250 extra a month$6,290 saved, 25 months sooner

Extra payments cut the interest

Anything you pay above the regular payment goes straight to principal, so less interest builds up every month after it. Check the loan has no early repayment fee first.

Before you sign

Look past the interest rate

The rate decides the payment, but these terms decide what the loan really costs and what happens when a month is slow.

Fees and the APR

Origination, arrangement and service fees raise the real cost. Ask for the APR, which counts most fees, and compare offers on that.

Early repayment terms

Some lenders charge a fee to pay off early or keep the interest anyway. Know this before you plan extra payments.

On Tanqory

Keep more of every sale to repay it

A loan is repaid from margin. Tanqory keeps the fees off your sales, keeps the numbers a lender asks for in one admin, and lets AI do the reporting work.

  1. 0%

    Tanqory transaction fee

Your provider's own rate, not marked up

No transaction fee on any plan

Connect your own Stripe, PayPal or Braintree account and pay a 0% Tanqory transaction fee on every plan. You pay your provider's own rate, never marked up, so more of each sale is left for repayments.

  2. sales-over-time.csv

The numbers a lender asks for

Export your sales, orders and tax reports as CSV from the admin when a lender or your accountant asks for your trading history.

Questions about business loans

How is the monthly payment worked out?

With the standard amortization formula: M = P × r(1+r)^n ÷ ((1+r)^n - 1), where P is the amount, r is the annual rate divided by 12 and n is the number of monthly payments. Each payment is rounded to your currency's smallest unit and the last payment clears what is left, so the schedule adds up exactly.

What interest rate should I enter?

The rate the lender quotes for the loan. Rates depend on the lender, the type of loan, your trading history, your credit and whether the loan is secured. If you only have an APR, enter it to see a payment that includes most fees.

How do extra monthly payments change my loan?

Extra money goes straight to principal, so the balance falls faster and less interest is charged in every month after. The calculator shows the interest saved and how many months sooner the loan is paid off. Check first that your lender allows early repayment without a fee.

Why does a longer term cost more at the same rate?

Interest is charged each month on the balance you still owe. A longer term keeps the balance higher for longer, so even though each payment is smaller, you pay interest on more months.

What costs should I count besides interest?

Origination or arrangement fees, service fees, early repayment fees, insurance the lender requires and the cost of any security. Ask for the APR and the total amount repayable, and compare offers on those.

Does it work for any currency?

Yes. Pick your currency and amounts are shown in its format and rounded to its smallest unit, for example cents for US dollars and euros, pence for pounds, and whole yen for Japanese yen. The calculator picks a starting currency from your browser's region; you can change it at any time.

Is this a loan offer?

No. It is an estimate for a fixed-rate loan with equal monthly payments. Tanqory does not lend money. Your lender's agreement, its fees and the way it charges interest decide what you actually pay.

Is what I type stored anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to Tanqory. The CSV is made on your device when you download it.
