1. Choose a legal form
SSM names the Sole Proprietorship and the Partnership (2 to 20 partners) for business registration, with Sdn Bhd companies registered separately.
2. Register the business
Sole proprietorships and partnerships register online with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) through EzBiz, which is not applicable to Sdn Bhd or LLP.
3. Get your tax number
The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia says that from 1 January 2024 individuals apply for a Tax Identification Number (TIN) online through e-Daftar on the MyTax Portal.
4. Check when you must register for SST
Royal Malaysian Customs requires sales tax registration when the sales value of taxable goods of a manufacturer exceeds RM500,000 for a 12 months period, with most service tax thresholds at RM500,000 (expanded from 1 July 2025).
5. Follow the rules for selling online
