The assumptions, in plain words

  • 600 orders a month at $45.00 each: $27,000 in sales a month.
  • Today your platform bills $120 a month. On Tanqory the Starter plan is $14.00 a month on yearly billing, from the pricing catalog, with 3 staff seats.
  • Your platform takes 1% of each sale on top. Tanqory takes 0%.
  • Your provider charges 2.9% plus $0.30 per order on both sides. Tanqory never marks it up.
  • You pay $150 a month for apps the plan already does, and keep paying $40 for the rest.
  • Your team spends 40 hours a month on manual work at $25 an hour. You expect the AI assistant to take 25% of it.
  • Switching costs you $1,500 once.

A year today costs $30,516; on Tanqory $21,254. That leaves $9,262 a year, and the switch pays back in 2 months.

How it is worked out

Cost of ownership is more than the plan price

A store costs its platform plan, a fee on each sale, the payment provider, the apps around it and the hours the team spends keeping it running. Each card shows one part with sample numbers, drawn by the same code as the calculator.

  • 1Plan$120 a month
  • 2Fees$270 a month
  • 3Payments$963 a month
  • 4Apps$190 a month
  • 5Staff time$1,000 a month

A year of cost in one sum

Add the five monthly costs and multiply by twelve. Do it for how you run today and for Tanqory, and the gap between the two is what a switch is worth a year.

  • $10,000 a month in sales$1,200 a year
  • $50,000 a month in sales$6,000 a year
  • $200,000 a month in sales$24,000 a year

Tanqory: 0% transaction fee at every level

Sample: a 1% extra platform fee

A fee per sale grows with every order

A plan price stays put; a percent on each sale climbs with your sales. A 1% extra fee looks small until you see it over a year at each level of sales.

  • 30 hours your team keeps
  • 10 hours back to you

Sample: 40 hours a month, 25% set by the merchant, as in the calculator

Hours are a cost too

Writing product copy, answering the same questions and building reports take hours every week. Count them at what an hour costs you, then set how much you expect the AI assistant to take.

$1,500 to switch, $772 kept a month

Payback, in months

Divide the one-time cost of switching by what you keep each month. A short payback means the switch has paid for itself well inside the first year.

Where the cost comes off

Questions about the cost of running a store

What is the total cost of ownership of an online store?

Everything you pay to keep the store running: the platform plan, any fee the platform takes on each sale, your payment provider, the apps and plugins around the store, and the hours your team spends on manual work. The calculator counts all five for a year.

Where do the Tanqory prices come from?

From the Tanqory pricing catalog, the same one checkout bills from. The plan price, the price of an extra seat and the transaction fee are read from it when the page loads, so they match the pricing page. Nothing on the Tanqory side is typed by hand.

Why is the payment provider line the same on both sides?

On Tanqory you connect your own Stripe, PayPal or Braintree account and pay that provider's own rate, never marked up. The line stays in so the total is the whole cost, and it only changes if you change your rate.

How does this total compare with what other platforms charge?

Other platforms charge on the same five lines, in different places. Some keep the plan price low and take an extra percent of each sale when you use your own payment provider; some charge for staff seats or extra stores; and email, reviews, subscriptions or B2B often come as paid apps. Put each of those bills into the calculator and the total shows the whole year side by side, whichever platform you run on today.

How should I set the share the AI assistant takes?

It is your own estimate, so start with work you know well. The assistant drafts product copy, emails, policies and reports without using AI credits, and acts on products, orders, discounts and customers once you confirm. Set 0 to see the comparison without AI at all.

Which apps count as built into the plan?

Marketing email, product reviews, subscriptions, B2B and wholesale, workflow automation, markets and local currencies, invoices and finance. Put the bills for those apps in the first apps field. A loyalty program is a paid add-on on Tanqory, so keep its bill in the second field.

What does the calculator leave out?

Costs that stay the same wherever you sell, such as the products themselves, shipping, ad spend and taxes. Themes are left out too: every Tanqory theme is free, so add a theme you pay for today to the one-time switching cost.

Is anything I type saved or sent?

No. The sums run in your browser, and nothing you type leaves the page or is stored.

Run the numbers, then run the store

Describe what you sell and Tanqory drafts the store for you. Keep your own payment provider with a 0% transaction fee, and let AI take the busywork.
