Payments & Checkout Basics on Tanqory

Payments & Checkout Basics on Tanqory: Set Up Once, Sell Confidently Your storefront can look perfect and your products can be priced beautifully: but if payments and checkout aren't set up correctly, you'll lose sales before they even start. For beginners, "payments" can feel confusing: providers, verification, payout schedules, currencies, fraud checks, and all the small settings you don't want to get wrong. The good news: you don't need to master everything. You need a clean setup that works reliably, then a checkout experience that feels simple and trustworthy. This guide is a practical, step-by-step overview of payments and checkout on Tanqory. You'll learn what to prepare, how to set up payment methods and payouts, how to avoid common mistakes, and how to test your checkout flow so you can sell confidently.

What "good payment setup" looks like

Before we jump into steps, here's the target:

• Customers can pay using methods they trust
• Your store collects money in the correct currency
• Payouts are configured and verified (so you actually receive funds)
• Checkout is clear, fast, and free of surprises
• You've tested the full flow end-to-end (before real orders arrive)

If you can check these off, you're in a strong place.

Step 1: Choose your payment strategy (start simple)

New stores often make one of two mistakes:

• enabling too many methods before they understand their customers
• enabling too few methods and losing buyers at checkout

A better approach is "simple first, expand later."

Start with one primary method

Pick the method your customers most commonly use in your market. For many stores, that's card payments (through a provider) plus one alternative method popular in the region.

Add methods only when you have a reason

Reasons to add a new method:

• Your audience asks for it repeatedly
• Your checkout conversion improves with it
• You're expanding to a new market with different payment habits

Beginner tip: a smaller, stable setup beats a complex setup you can't troubleshoot.

Step 2: Prepare the information you'll need (avoid setup delays)

Payment providers and payouts usually require verification. Prepare these early so you don't get stuck mid-launch.

Business details

• Business/brand name
• Business registration details (if applicable)
• Business address and contact email
• Website/store URL
• Owner/representative details (often required)
  • Legal name and ID details
  • Proof of address (sometimes)
  • Date of birth (depending on provider requirements)

Bank account / payout details

• Bank account name and number
• Bank codes (where required)
• Payout currency preference (if applicable)

Note: verification requirements vary by region and provider. The fastest path is to complete payment and payout setup before launch, not after you make sales.

Step 3: Enable payments on Tanqory (core setup)

Once you're inside Tanqory admin, your goal is to:

• enable at least one payment method
• complete payout settings
• confirm currency and store region match your intent

3.1 Set your store currency intentionally

Choose the currency your customers will pay in. If you plan to sell internationally later, start with one main currency and expand carefully once operations are stable.

3.2 Connect a payment provider (or methods available in your region)

Follow the provider connection steps inside Tanqory. During setup, double-check:

• business info matches your legal details
• your email and URL are correct
• verification requirements are complete

3.3 Configure payouts

This is where many beginners forget a step. Even if checkout works, payouts can fail if payout settings aren't verified. Checklist:

• payout account entered correctly
• payout method confirmed
• any required verification completed
• payout schedule understood (so cash flow planning is realistic)

Step 4: Make checkout feel trustworthy (reduce friction)

Checkout isn't just a payment page: it's a trust moment. Most buyers drop off because of friction and uncertainty, not because they changed their mind. Here's how to reduce friction without over-optimizing.

4.1 Reduce surprises

Surprises kill conversions. Make these visible early:

• shipping cost range (or free shipping threshold)
• delivery timeframe
• return/refund policy basics
• taxes/fees if applicable

4.2 Keep choices clean

If you offer too many payment methods, checkout can feel messy. Keep it focused:

• one primary method
• one or two supporting methods (only if relevant)

4.3 Use clear, human language

Avoid confusing labels. Your checkout should be easy to understand:

• "Pay by card" is clearer than provider names
• show what happens next (confirmation, email, delivery updates)

4.4 Make mobile checkout a priority

Most stores are mobile-first. Check:

• buttons are easy to tap
• forms don't feel endless
• checkout loads quickly on mobile

Beginner tip: the best checkout is the one customers barely notice because it's smooth.

Step 5: Protect your store (basic fraud and risk hygiene)

You don't need to become a security expert, but you should have basic safeguards.

Use verified providers

Stick to reputable providers available in your region and follow the recommended configuration.

Watch for common risk patterns

• mismatched billing and shipping info
• unusually large orders from new customers
• many failed payment attempts
• repeated orders from the same IP/device with different cards (pattern varies by tools)

Set clear policies

Fraud disputes often turn into "policy disputes." Having clear policies helps:

• refunds and returns
• delivery timeline
• how to contact support

Step 6: Test your checkout before launch (non-negotiable)

Testing is the difference between "we're live" and "we're ready."

6.1 Run a full test order

Before you publish:

• add a product to cart
• go through checkout
• confirm order confirmation screen
• confirm confirmation email (if enabled)
• check the order in admin (payment status, fulfillment status)

If test mode is available, use it. If not, do a small real transaction and refund it afterward, following your provider's process.

6.2 Test on mobile and desktop

Do at least:

• one iPhone/Android checkout
• one desktop checkout

6.3 Test edge cases

• discounted product (if discounts exist)
• shipping vs pickup flow (if you offer both)
• different shipping address formats (common in your market)

Step 7: Common payment and checkout mistakes (and quick fixes)

Mistake 1: Payments enabled, but payouts not verified Fix: complete payout verification before launch.

Mistake 2: Currency mismatch Fix: confirm the store currency matches what customers expect.

Mistake 3: Shipping costs appear too late Fix: show shipping expectations earlier on product/cart pages.

Mistake 4: Too many payment options Fix: remove anything that doesn't match your customer base.

Mistake 5: No "trust basics" in checkout flow Fix: add clear shipping time + return policy basics + contact email visibility.

A simple checklist you can follow every launch

Use this as your final pre-launch checklist:

• Store currency set
• At least one payment method enabled
• Payout details entered and verified
• Taxes and fees reviewed (if applicable)
• Shipping/delivery settings connected to checkout
• Confirmation email tested
• Test order completed and visible in admin
• Mobile checkout tested
• Policies visible (shipping + returns)

If all boxes are checked, you're ready to sell confidently.

Once payments and checkout are stable, your next lever is improving conversion: not by adding complexity, but by reducing uncertainty. Start with:

• clearer shipping expectations
• stronger product page clarity
• simpler payment choices
• consistent post-purchase communication

A checkout that feels calm and predictable is one of the biggest advantages a new store can have.
