What each block asks of your business

The right side is about customers and how money comes in; the left side is what it takes to serve them and what that costs. Each card shows that block of the example, drawn by the same code as your download.

1. Customer segments

The groups you make value for. Different needs, channels or prices mean different segments, so list them apart and put the one that matters most first.

2. Value propositions

Why a segment buys from you and not the alternative: faster, cheaper, made to order, easier. Write one line per segment if they buy for different reasons.

3. Channels

How customers hear about you, buy and receive what they bought: your own store, marketplaces, social media, a market stall, wholesale.

4. Customer relationships

How you win customers, keep them and sell to them again: self-serve accounts, a personal reply, a members club, a subscription.

5. Revenue streams

What each segment pays for and how: one-off sales, subscriptions, wholesale terms, fees. Note how often money comes in, not just how much.

6. Key resources

What the model cannot run without: people with rare skills, equipment, stock, your store and customer list, a brand people trust.

7. Key activities

The work you have to do well to deliver the value: making, packing and shipping, content that brings customers in, support that keeps them.

8. Key partners

The suppliers, makers, carriers and allies you depend on, and what each takes off your plate so you can focus on the rest.

9. Cost structure

The biggest costs the blocks above create. Split the fixed costs, like rent, from the ones that grow with every order, like packaging and payment fees.

Questions about the business model canvas

What is a business model canvas?

It is a one-page map of how a business makes, delivers and earns from value, split into nine blocks: customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners and cost structure. It shows how the parts depend on each other at a glance.

In what order should I fill in the nine blocks?

Start on the right with the customers: segments, value propositions, channels, relationships and revenue streams. Then fill in the left: the resources, activities and partners it takes, and the costs they add up to. The numbers on each block follow that order.

How is a business model canvas different from a business plan?

A business plan is a long document with forecasts and detail for lenders or investors. The canvas is one page you can change in minutes, so it suits testing ideas and talking them through with a team before you write the plan.

What is the difference between a business model canvas and a lean canvas?

The lean canvas swaps some blocks for problem, solution, key metrics and unfair advantage, to suit a startup still testing whether anyone wants the product. The business model canvas keeps partners, activities, resources and relationships, which suits a business that already knows its customers.

Is my canvas saved, and who can see it?

It is saved in this browser on this device as you type, and nowhere else: nothing is sent to Tanqory or anyone else, and there is no account. Clearing your browser data or using a private window removes it, so download a PDF or PNG to keep a copy.

Can I download it as a PDF or a picture?

Yes. Download PDF makes a one-page landscape file in A4 or Letter that prints cleanly in black and white. Download PNG makes a sharp picture for slides, chats and documents, and keeps any alphabet or symbol you typed.

How often should I update my business model canvas?

Whenever something you tested changes a block: a new channel, a price change, a partner you no longer need. Many teams look at it again every quarter, or before any big decision, and keep the old versions to see how the model moved.

Is the business model canvas template free?

Yes. The tool, the example and the downloads are free, with no sign-up and no email.

Can I start the business on Tanqory once the canvas is done?

Yes. Describe what you sell and the AI builds a store ready to sell, with your brand, theme, pages and products. Every plan has a 0% transaction fee with the payment provider you connect, and subscriptions and B2B wholesale are built in.
